Description
xTracy Chevalier writes historical fiction that connects individual lives with art, craft and changing societies.
Young servant Griet enters the household of painter Johannes Vermeer in seventeenth-century Delft. Her sensitivity to colour and light draws his attention, but their growing artistic connection unsettles the family around them. Imagining the story behind a famous portrait, the novel follows the risks faced by a young woman caught between talent, class and desire.
